Paul Bryant is an industrial designer from the Greater Toronto Area, who draws with a light touch, and continues building upon his sketches endlessly until you pry them away and kindly ask him to leave. He believes that design should be light and whimsical on the surface, with serious, human-centred thinking at its core, and is inspired by living forms (or, alternatively, the illusion of life).

Paul’s recently completed thesis project, ‘Luci,’ is a flexible ultrasound console designed to address the extremely high prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal injuries among sonographers. Based on the results of ultrasound procedure observation, user interviews, patient surveying, and a review of the current literature, Luci is a reimagining of the ultrasound machine to satisfy the documented needs of both sonographers and their patients.

Luci was featured at the ACIDO Rocket Show in May 2013, and has received 2nd place in the industrial design category of the Connect: Enabling Change 2013 competition hosted by the Design Exchange in Toronto. The ultrasound machine design will be on display at the Design Exchange Museum from June 7th to June 30th.
